Uzalo is a South African soap opera produced by Stained Glass Productions, which is co-owned by Kobedi “Pepsi” Pokane and Gugu Zuma-Ncube. It began airing in 2015, quickly becoming a hit due to its compelling narrative, writing, direction and the performances of the relatively-unknown cast. Uzalo initially told the story of two young men who were switched at birth, one being raised in a family with core Christian values and the other at a crime syndicate. It currently broadcasts from Monday to Friday on SABC 1. The SABC 1 TV Show is currently the most-watched television show in South Africa.

Actors That Are Leaving Uzalo In 2021, Who’s Next

At the moment, three of Uzalo leading actors this year; Baby Cele who plays Gabisile, Siyabonga Shibe who plays Qhabanga and Dawn Thandeka King who plays MaNgcobo are leaving the show.

The show confirmed speculations last year that two of its leading actors, Baby Cele and Siyabonga Shibe, are leaving the show.

Cele, Shibe and King are set to leave the show at the end of its sixth season which we can see happening now Dawn Thandeka King chose to not renew her contract for the upcoming season seven of the show and is moving to Johannesburg to explore greener pastures on Mzansi’s Magic’s upcoming series; Diepsloot.

Rumours about Cele and Shibe’s departure had been circulating for a month last year until the producer’s confirmed their departure.

The show’s producers said:

“Baby Cele and Siyabonga Shibe will be leaving Uzalo by the end of season six. The story has taken this direction and will give us a riveting, high-stakes ending for both characters. The decision was made in consultation with the two actors. Both have given a tremendous amount to their roles on Uzalo and we are forever grateful for that. We will be introducing a host of new characters played by SA’s best. Please stay tuned and see as the story unfolds.”

There were rumours that Shibe had been fired from the show back in June, but all those reports were somehow denied. The actor even poured cold water on reports that he’s had fights with the producers of the SABC1 show and that he was leaving the production.

Shibe took to Instagram and explained:

“I have had so many calls wanting to know whether I have been fired from Uzalo. I have been ignoring the issue for too long now. I want to put it on record that me and my producers are in a good space and there were never any fights for whatever reason. We are concentrating on delivering a good product for SABC1 since Covid-19 has affected many. Such reporting affects many – my family, my fans, fans of Uzalo.

I repeat I have never fought with anyone and I have not been booted out, as some reports claim.”
