Gugu Gumede (born December 10, 1991) is a South African actress born in the Province of Natal. She is well known for portraying the character of a prophetess, Mamlambo, in the soapie Uzalo. Her father was the late Simon Hulumeni Gumede and her mother was the late Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi. She studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles. In 2013 Gumede returned from the United States and landed a role as Mandisa in Generations one of the most successful shows in South Africa. In 2015, Gumede was cast to portray the character of Mamlambo on the most viewed television show in South Africa Uzalo.

Gugu Gumede has revealed that she will be returning to the small screen not long after the birth of her new little bundle of joy. The actress has been absent from public view for close to half a year, but she has now returned to the spotlight.

On her latest post on social media she uploaded her pictures with her little daughter and mentioned that she is turning 4 months old today. The photo was captioned ” I was made to love you, aunties and uncles, our little one is now 4 months old!! Very soon we will be marrying her off.

Gugu, who portrays Mamlambo on the South African soap opera Uzalo on SABC1, announced the end of her maternity leave on Instagram yesterday. She revealed her anxiety by posting a stunning photo of herself along with the caption, “I am so nervous to leave my little princess for the very first time.”
