Uzalo Latest News

Uzalo is a South African soap opera produced by Stained Glass Productions, which is co-owned by Kobedi “Pepsi” Pokane and Gugu Zuma-Ncube. It began airing in 2015, quickly becoming a hit due to its compelling narrative, writing, direction and the performances of the relatively-unknown cast. It currently broadcasts from Monday to Friday on SABC 1. It is currently the most-watched television show in South Africa.

It initially told the story of two young men who were switched at birth, one being raised in a family with core Christian values and the other at a crime syndicate.

Once again the SABC 1 drama series, Uzalo, has made it in the trending topics on social media.

This time, things are not looking good at all, as their followers are now requesting for the show to be shut down or cut down.

This happens after the continuous outcry from the public about the storyline that has failed the most talented actors within the show.

As we’ve all seen, Uzalo’s viewership has been affected, from what it was before the whole downfall. This is really worrying because Uzalo was considered the most-watched TV show in mzansi.

The show reported that in April 2020, it had 11.4 million viewership. However, things went sour later in the year as they got 8.8 million viewership.

Even worse in January 2021, it is believed that Uzalo decreases its viewership to 3 million. Also, several reports have stated that Uzalo will go on a production break at the beginning of March 2021.

However, it seems like the rumour was not true or things have changed as the show is still aired on SABC 1.

Additionally, reports also stated that SABC 1 has given the production team a lifeline to work on their story otherwise the show will shutdown.

Now, Uzalo’s season 7 is here and their well-loved actors are expected to be brought back to revive the show, namely GV, Mxolisi, Mastermind and Thobile.

Also, the new season started with the businesswoman, socialite and reality star, Shawn Mkhize who didn’t win people’s hearts with her debut in acting.

There has been a post on Twitter that got people sharing their opinions about Uzalo had over 500 retweets, 3 400 likes and 200 comments.

The major issue is that people claim there’s no growth and creativity within their storyline.

They believe the producers have lost their plot of the story, which has left their views confused and wanting to boycott the show.

The viewers feel that they deserve better from Uzalo writers, actors and the whole production team.

@PrinceMMNcube17 said, “When Uzalo started it was about kids who got swapped at birth but now everything is about Nkunzi ny*bing every woman there & they lost it there. Look at Isibaya started about taxi violence it’s still is about its pure storyline.”

@SithaleKgaogelo said, “In case you don’t know, the writers and editors of Uzalo are connected politically. There was even an uproar of how they got that slot.”
