The President declared the National State of Disaster as a result of the Covid-19 global pandemic. In this regard he introduced a special Covid 19 Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD) of R350 per month to be paid to individuals who are currently unemployed, do not receive any form of income, social grant or UIF payment etc. The Special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress amount is R350 per month, from the date it is approved. SASSA Beneficiaries can change the payment

  • change from one payment method to another
  • opt from receiving the grant at the Post Office to a bank account of their choice or vice versa
  • move their payments from one bank to another
  • choose a cash send option using a cellphone registered in their name only

The above options will only be open from 3 to 9 August.
